Party Review...Tipping Our Hats to the Big Hat Gentlemen! Back

Oct 14, 2012

The Knights of Columbus Hall in Dearborn Heights, MI welcomed guests from Detroit, Lansing, Flint, Toledo, and Cleveland Saturday night to their annual Classy Dancing Set. The Big Hat Gentlemen are comprised of founder Bashiri along with Bobby, Frank, Calvin, Phil, Ron, Walter and newcomers DJ Paul Ross "The Boss” and Darby "Mr. Debonair” Settles.  In their own ways, each of these gentlemen have held a strong presence in the Detroit dance community for over five years by offering an annual classy dancing affair which caters to a largely steppin, ballrooming, and line dance community.

Guests were treated to a buffet style dinner catered by Lynne "Ms. Cheesecake” Batten and the melodic sounds of DJ Rockin Rodney Mack with Paul Ross pinch hitting. One thing that I have always liked about the BHG parties is that they make it a point to dance with all of the women at their sets. This is not a common practice by many social groups. You will find that many male escorts will get invited to parties only to dance with their particular favorites all night long but not the Big Hat Gentlemen. They know that showing the women that come to their parties a good time…is key. The contestants and winners of the World’s Largest Contest were also recognized Saturday night for their efforts in continuing to draw national recognition in Detroit’s contribution to Chicago Step. Contestants and winners in the house were Sherry Gordon, Gina Ellis, Keesha Anderson, "Ed Lover” Donaldson, "Richie Rich” Cochran, James Pacely, Candy Prater, Ann Hunter, Drew "The Phenom” Alexander, and Feo and Candace.

Also in the house were Ohio representatives  Popeye and his wife, members of Mind, Body and Soul and the home team, Keesha Reeves, newcomer Amanda Anderson (watch out for her folks, she’s definitely being primed for big things to come), Copacetic Steppers’ Lisa, Ira and Gail Blakely, Sir Charles,  Bonita Gower-Williams, Patrice Pye, Joyce Louis, Carol T, DJ Michael "Sandman” Sandelin, Daryl Flex, the BHG wifeys, Loretta, Debra "1 Love” Ross, Cassandra Settles and an endless array of supporters.

The Big Hat Gentlemen Gentlemen represent a wealth professionalism, they display a level of cordiality that is uncontested and their desire to provide their attendees an evening to remember is never ending. Ladies and gentlemen…if given the opportunity to attend a Big Hat Gentlemen event…please come and see how effective wearing a big hat can be!
